Model United Nations (MUN) in the Southern Provinces of Morocco

This project aims to build a community of young diplomats across Morocco’s southern regions, focusing on diplomacy, human rights, and leadership development. The ultimate goal is to empower participants with the skills needed to prepare human rights reports, qualifying them to become advocates for human rights and leaders in diplomacy within their communities.

Project Overview:

  • Duration: 6 to 7 months of training and workshops.

  • Preliminary Phase: Organizing roundtable discussions with youth interested in human rights and diplomacy to gather expectations and develop an operational guide.

  • Workshop Topics: Negotiation skills, international law, public speaking, research methodologies, and human rights mechanisms through the platforms of the UN and the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR).

  • Expansion Goal: Organizing MUN simulations in multiple cities across the southern provinces.

First Meeting with UFEK – Establishing the Partnership:

  • Training the Project Leaders: Both teams will engage in self-training to deepen their understanding of the MUN model and human rights issues before launching the project.

  • Next Steps: The two partners will begin outreach to secondary schools and universities to present the project and recruit interested participants during the preparation phase.

This partnership marks a significant step toward expanding Model United Nations initiatives in southern Morocco. It reflects OSPDH’s commitment to youth empowerment, human rights advocacy, and the promotion of diplomatic education.

On November 6, 2024, OSPDH held its first meeting with the YOFIC team to discuss the partnership as co-leaders of the Model United Nations project. The following key points were addressed:

  • Shared Vision: Both parties committed to creating a comprehensive MUN training program that goes beyond a single event and aims to build long-term skills among young participants.

  • Project Plan: Agreement on preparing a concept note and developing a sponsorship file to attract partners and ensure the project's sustainability.
